Uploading a CSV
How to Upload a CSV to Magellan Data
Magellan Data makes it easy to enrich your company data with parent companies and private equity owners, and to discover companies with shared owners. To get started, you'll need to upload a CSV file containing your company list.
What You'll Need
Your CSV file must have at least three columns in this order:
- ID: A unique identifier for each company (can be a CRM ID, account number, or any unique value)
- Company Name: The name of the company
- Website/URL: The company's website
Important notes:
- Column names can be anything (e.g., "ID" or "Account ID", "Company Name" or "Account Name", "Website" or "URL"), but you must have column headers
- For the website column, either format works:
amazon.comORhttps://www.amazon.com— we'll extract the domain automatically - Any rows missing a website will be skipped during processing
- Your CSV can have more than three columns, but the first three must be ID, Company Name, and Website
Example of a correctly formatted CSV:
ID,Company Name,Website 324342342,Acme Inc.,acme.com erdfds342,Example Corp,https://example.com 12345,Test Company,test-company.com
Uploading Your CSV to Magellan Data
Once you have your CSV file ready:
- Log in to your Magellan Data account

- Wait for the file to be validated (we'll check that your file has the required columns and valid data)
- Once validated, you'll see a success message showing how many rows were processed
- Click Choose reports to select which enrichment reports you want
Tips for a Successful Upload
- Use the correct column order: Your CSV must have three columns in order: ID, Company Name, Website/URL
- Column headers required: Make sure the first row contains column names (they can be named anything). Don't upload the CSV with empty headers.
- Unique IDs: Make sure each row has a unique ID so you can track your records
- Check file size: While there's no strict limit, larger files (10,000+ rows) may take longer to process

We'll analyze your company list to ensure it meets upload requirements and generate the enrichment reports you selected (depends on file size, but usually under 30 seconds).
You can then select reports for purchase. Each report consumes a different amount of credits. After selecting reports and redeeming your credits, any purchased reports will be immediately available to download in your dashboard.
